There are many things that can be incorporated everyday into the classroom. Students benefit from these as it encourages and supports their physical, social and intellectual development. During time during placements I have included the following into my lessons:
- Adequate breaks between active learning such as fruit breaks, free time and brain breaks, allowing students time to refresh their thinking to better concentrate on the next task.
- Allow students to have some responsibility over their learning such as choosing topics for writing, own book choice for book studies and activities for free time.
- Incorporate physical activity into lessons, such outside games, dances and allowing students to move around the room.
- Allowing students to sort out conflict and problems by themselves, giving them a sense of independence and experience in conflict resolution.
