Include a range of teaching strategies.
Having a range of teaching strategies is important to keep lessons fresh and enable all students of differing abilities the chance to learn in the way they do best.
Some teaching strategies I have used in previous placements have included:
Explicit Teaching
Almost all lessons start with explicit teaching. Having the students start in a group and explaining the lesson helps to ensure all students understand what the lesson is about, as well as getting them engaged in the topic.
Collaborative Learning
I used group work in my 'Understanding the National Anthem' lesson, it enabled the students to work in pairs or small groups to accomplish the task.
Learning by 'doing'
A 'floating ball' activity involved students creating and then modifying a simple experiment to fine tune it. Students were free to experiment with the available resources and discuss with each other what works best.
