When working with indigenous students at my first placement, I made sure to receive as much background information about them as possible from my mentor teacher to be better prepared as within one class there was a great variance on abilities and cultural differences. I ensured I did not pressure them to hold eye contact, and tailored my lesson plans around their prior knowledge. For a science lesson about food chains I used a short Youtube video explaining what a food chain is as my learning object, I then based an activity around the video where students are to draw or write a diagram of a habitat that they are familiar with. Leaving the activity so open allowed students of all cultural backgrounds to be able to participate in the lesson.
