Set learning goals that provide achievable challenges for students of varying abilities and characteristics.
Identifying and setting goals for student of varying abilities and characteristics has been achieved in previous placements. When planning lessons I ensured to note how I would differentiate lessons for the students with higher abilities, this often meant they were put into groups as 'leaders', encouraged to work more independently or to further expand on their ideas. Streaming students into different groups based on abilities for literacy and numeracy lessons allows more variation on tasks that are suitable to the groups abilities.
Students of lower ability were given more support and had the activities broken down into smaller steps.

An example of how I would differentiate a lesson where the students are required to write poems while taking on a persona.
Below is a lesson plan that I used for a grade 1/2 class. the introduction for the class is the same for both grade levels, and they then move onto different worksheets appropriate for their abilities, the class then merges once again for a brainstorm to share their knowledge on the topic.
