Diary Excerpt:
Placement 1, week 1:
I had a meeting with the principal and mentor teacher on the first day of placement today. We discussed the differences between main stream schools and this school (Aboriginal boarding school) I found out that some student's don't speak English as their first language, or at all until they arrived at the school, that we must not push them if they do not want to participate, never to raise our voices, to be prepared to be flexible in lessons as often it is best to run with what the students show interest in. I also learnt that they do not force student's to work in pairs or groups as there may be cultural differences between the students that cause barriers. I think this is going to be a great placement and a fantastic learning opportunity.
